Kon'nichiwa Everyone,
Since 1985 I have run a landscape design and horticultural consultancy business in Sydney, Australia. I am interested in the heritage gardens of Japan and the history and mythology associated with Japanese landscapes and places. I am looking forward to participating in this forum.
kind regards, Meryl

Welcome, Meryl! With some digging, I think you will find some interesting threads on what you are looking for. There is one active now on the General Forum Discussion board on "Modern" Japanese gardens you might find interesting.

Hi Meryl,
Belated welcome from a Pennsylvanian born in Sydney. What is the reception for your Japanese gardens by the general public? In our area there is little awareness or interest when compared with the American patio/backyard living environment. Do you have a website? It would be great to see some more of your work.

Hi James
Sorry I've taken so long to reply, Summer is always a busy time for me. Yes, neighbours and clients who see my garden have all enjoyed it, but that maybe for the novelty of it in some cases! In Sydney there is a fairly good awareness of Japanese style gardens as they are featured regularly in the plethora of 'homestyle' TV shows, although some of these gardens are eclectic and interpretive mixes of Japanese & Chinese gardens, nevertheless, the Japanese aesthetic is appreciated and admired widely from landscape architects and professionals to local gardening communities. You can find more of my work at aromagardens.com.au
cheers, Meryl

Meryl,
Thank you, you have a fascinating portfolio. It must be a joy to tend those gardens. It was also interesting to see the Australian flavors of flora.

Yes Yamasan you are right, in between running my landscape business I am also doing a University degree to celebrate my mid-life crisis, it's cheaper than buying a red Ferrari... and like you I can't read small print of books anymore either
