Good question! I have to ponder just how long it has been ... 2012, I think, when my husband and I were planning a cross country trip by train in order to stop and visit as many Japanese gardens as possible. Doing internet research, I chanced upon the web site and recognized a few names on the board of directors. I wrote to one and followed suggestions to join the Forum.

During that train trip, Bill and I had the great good fortune to meet Don Pylant in San Antonio. He escorted us to three garden locations and one restaurant where we'd heard there was a garden, but the owner died and the garden was mostly gone. The friendship with Don has continued.

In the years since, I've met many Forum members face to face and continue to check in here at least once a week. The revamp of the web site is amazing. The addition of the Handbook is fascinating and a wonderful resource.

Here's to more and better and deeper and and and

And any of you who are heading to Hawaii (especially Hilo on the Island of Hawaii), please feel free to get in touch.

Much aloha and deep gratitude,
KT

Excellent question.
I just realized I have been a member since 2007-03-19, over 10 years!  Crazy how time flies.

I am a member to try to learn as much as I can about the Japanese gardening aesthetic.  I also visit to learn about the Japanese Gardens around the world to hopefully visit one day.  I would love to have a Japanese inspired garden and try with each adjustment to our yard to bring Japanese Garden ideas into focus.

I've only been a member for less than a year, but I've been building Japanese gardens as a professional for about four years now. I'm mostly here because I wanted to make contact with other kindred spirits, and to learn and share knowledge. I'm a member of NAJGA, but there's not a lot of action in that circle outside of scheduled events. I've really enjoyed availing myself of the treasure trove of information and knowledge that has amassed here over the years, and I almost feel as though I know several of you, even though it's only through reading years' worth of posts over the course of the last few months.
