It is often said that it rained tea on the day of Buddha’s birth. In Japan those who visit a shrine on his birthday take an offering of fresh spring flowers. Hana Matsuri celebrates the fleeting beauty of the delicate cherry blossom and honors the birth of Buddha. This festival features an exhibition of flower arrangements by the Saga Goryu School of Ikebana. A prayer ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. on both days of the festival and exhibition, and a demonstration of The Way of Tea, or Chado, will occur on both days at noon and 2 pm.
