Spring Plant Sale – Saturday, May 4 – 9AM to 1PM

When visitors to Kubota Garden enter through the Tsutakawa Gate and ornamental wall, or walk through the Tom Kubota Stroll Garden, they probably do not realize that the Foundation has funded these enhancements to the Garden. They are expensive projects. How do we do it? Love of the Garden brings many generous donations of talent, materials, time and money; however, the two yearly plant sales are our major money raising efforts. Our first sale was in September 1991; later we began to offer both a Spring and Fall sale. Since 2001 Rusty Llewellyn has served as chairperson; she agreed to be the “temporary chairperson” that Fall and has continued for 12 years. Rusty is retiring this year and Phyllis Grant is assuming the role, fresh with new ideas and experience of volunteering at the sale for many years.

A good sale requires around 50 day-of-sale volunteers to sell, take money, answer questions, carry out plants, load cars, etc. For the last couple of weeks before the sale, volunteers will pot, label, weed, prune, arrange, and research plant information in order to be ready for customers on May 4. Nursery volunteers will work from 9AM – Noon, Monday through Friday, the weeks of April 22 and April 29; if you’re interested in volunteering and prepare for the sale, just show up and we’ll put you to work.  If you’re interested in volunteering at the sale, please let us know at info@kubotagarden.org or by calling (206) 725-5060.
